Networking is an essential component of a successful career in accounting. In the dynamic and competitive world of finance, building and maintaining professional relationships is key to staying informed about industry trends, accessing new opportunities, and gaining valuable insights from peers and mentors.

So we’ve compiled a list of large-scale accounting events in the UK that you might want to consider when planning your networking. There are many more around the world, but we’re focusing on closer to home for now!

The Alternative Accountancy Management Summit

If you are a managing/senior partner, MD, or CEO of an accountancy practice then this is the one for you. It focuses on helping you develop and activate purpose within your firm, grow your leadership skills, and attract or retain talent.

Festival of Accounting and Bookkeeping

This event markets itself as “saying no to anything boring” which we think is genius. The FAB team is putting together a show that has hand-on technology demos, interactive debates, a bookkeeping retreat, meetups, awards, and even fringe events.

Digital Accountancy Show

With over 3,000 attendees this 2 day show could give you an insight into emerging trends and technology, and give you the chance to network with your peers. It also includes keynote speakers from a range of different industries – a chance to see what else is out there, or where you could take your career.

Xerocon

This is a two-day cloud accounting and bookkeeping conference, along with a Xerocon party. It’s affectionately known as ‘Glastonbury for accountants and bookkeepers’, and includes industry insights, speakers, and exhibitors. Previous speakers have included Olympic cyclist Chris Hoy, astronaut Tim Peake, and business leader and investor Deborah Meaden

Annual International Accounting Forum and Awards

In its 14th year, this event brings together accounting firms along with regulators and industry bodies, consultancies and advisors, law firms, and technology providers to discuss themes impacting the sector and opportunities for growth. It’s a chance to meet others in accounting, hear from 20+ speakers, and speak to exhibitors. 80% of attendees are at director level or above.

Accountex Summit

Suitable for anyone in accounting, from accounts assistants to CEOs and everyone in between. It’s a chance to meet over 2,500 accountancy and finance professionals, and hear from experienced practitioners. There are also demos of new tech and software, keynote speakers, and relevant seminars to go to.

These are all large-scale networking events but there are many more regional events that give you the opportunity to meet other professionals and gain insight into how they work. Have a look at the Institute of Financial Accountants for some smaller opportunities they run. Or a quick search on Eventbrite brings up a plethora of accounting events that might be of interest.

You can also talk to your tutor to see what events they go to to meet others in their profession.
