If you’re thinking about becoming an accountant, you’ve probably heard of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). But why is it so great? Here are some things you may not know about ACCA.

You don’t need a degree to study ACCA

If you want to become an accountant and develop your career in the field, there’s good news! You don’t need a degree to study ACCA. ACCA is a globally recognised accountancy qualification that offers professional recognition of your knowledge and experience. While giving you work to gain experience in the industry, the ACCA route is perfect for aspiring accountants to set themselves up for success, regardless of whether you have a degree. So if you have ambitions of becoming an accountant, rest assured that achieving an ACCA qualification can open many doors.

You can start studying ACCA at any age

Think you’re too old to change or progress your career? Well, you’ll be happy to know that that’s not the case. Beginning your ACCA studies at any age is an opportunity to start gaining relevant knowledge and developing new and existing skills.

From facing self-assessment taxes alone to performing auditing tasks in a business setting, think of studying for your ACCA as a journey to make your abilities more tailored to the diverse challenges that come with the ever-changing world of accounting. And in addition to increasingly marketable qualifications, there’s even a chance you may find yourself learning things that you may not have otherwise come across. Age doesn’t matter – go for it and start achieving those goals today.

You can study ACCA part-time or full-time

If you’re an aspiring accountant looking for a qualification that works around your lifestyle, then the ACCA might be perfect for you. Whether you’re looking to take a flexible approach or full-time commitment, studying ACCA with Eagle Education will be sure to fit your needs. When subscribing to the full course, you’ll gain access to the content and resources for the whole ACCA qualification (from the Foundation level right up to the Strategic Professional level), and have the freedom to study when you want and as often as you want. But try not to procrastinate.

It won’t just suit your busy lifestyle, but you will also be making sure that you get the qualification you deserve. Who said financial qualifications had to be boring?

You can get an exemption from some of the papers

If you’re looking to get a professional qualification in accountancy, but already have some relevant work experience, then you may be eligible for an exemption from some of the papers. This means that those years of hard work will be put to good use; instead of studying for all the modules, you can focus on exploring and understanding the new topics and concepts that will take your career even further. If you have previous experience, contact our team directly and they’ll be able to advise you on where you need to start. You never know, you might become qualified a lot quicker than you expected.

The pass rate for ACCA exams is generally high

Studying for your ACCA will take a lot of hard work. We’re not saying that it’s easy, and some modules are much more difficult than others, but with the right amount of dedication, you will see results.

In the December 2022 exam sitting, the Applied Knowledge pass rate averaged at around 77%, and Applied Skills at 75%. The more advanced Strategic Professional pass rates averaged around 78%.*

It may look like a tough journey ahead of you, but it is possible if you work hard enough.

You don’t need to be a maths expert

A common misconception is that you have to be great at maths to be an accountant. That’s not the case. While you will need to have the basic knowledge for some of the ACCA papers, the topics are not particularly mathematically advanced. ACCA exams go far beyond mathematical ability as you will need to be able to interpret data and apply it in a practical context, use problem-solving skills, and be able to make well-informed decisions.

If you aren’t great at maths (or any of the other skills mentioned), these topics will be continuously revised throughout your studies. We’re here to support and teach you, so if you’re not too sure now, you will be by the time it gets to your exam date.
