For Bradley Russell, an accountant for a media company, flexibility was key to achieving his CIMA qualification. Having initially considered classroom learning, he soon realised that distance learning with Eagle was the best fit for his lifestyle.
Bradley first discovered Eagle while searching for CIMA-registered tuition providers. “I originally wanted to study in a classroom because that’s what I was used to at university,” he explains. “But then I realised I didn’t want to be tied to a set schedule every week.” With Eagle being a highly rated provider, it was the natural choice.
Juggling a full-time job while studying for a professional qualification is no small feat. “I don’t really have much of a personal life when it’s exam time,” Bradley admits. “Two or three weeks before an exam, I cut out distractions and focus entirely on my studies.”
His study routine includes two evenings of revision after work and dedicating most of his weekends to preparing for exams. “Distance learning has been ideal because I can structure my study time around my work schedule.”
One of the key advantages of studying with Eagle has been the flexible approach to learning. “I like that I can log on, go through a module, and do the knowledge check at my own pace,” Bradley says. “The interactive videos are really helpful too. I may not want to be in a classroom, but I still benefit from having someone take me through a question.”
Despite having access to tutor support, Bradley prefers to figure things out independently. “At university during COVID, I got used to not having immediate access to tutors, so I’ve developed a self-sufficient learning style.”
Studying for CIMA has not only enhanced Bradley’s theoretical knowledge but also accelerated his career progression. “I’m a management accountant, and what I’m learning directly applies to my role,” he explains. “Not all businesses use every aspect of CIMA’s core syllabus, but it has definitely helped me advance faster.”
Now approaching the final stages of his qualification, Bradley hopes to complete his case study by August or September. “Honestly, I’ll probably enjoy a break for a year, and then I plan to do a taxation qualification,” he shares. “But I won’t put as much pressure on myself the next time.”
Reflecting on his journey, Bradley is clear about the value of distance learning. “Work-life balance is hard to achieve, but distance learning makes it possible.”
