You may enjoy working with numbers or fancy a career change. Or maybe you want to show your boss that you’re worthy of a pay rise. The AAT qualification provides accessible opportunities for people from all backgrounds and all ambitions.

Here are some of the reasons to study AAT:

It’s a high growth sector

Accountancy is currently ‘one of the top ten growth industries in the UK’, according to LinkedIn’s 2018 job sector report.  It ranked 7th for sectors that have had the highest UK growth over the last 15 years.

Finance is at the heart of every business, and the demand for accounting/finance skills will never go away. Pursuing a career in this sector almost guarantees longevity and progression.

It can lead to a Chartered Accountant career

With your ambition you may want to study beyond AAT and become a Chartered Accountant.

In this field, you may find yourself: on the boards of multinationals, advising governments, or supporting charities and businesses from every industry all over the world.

All of the UK’s bodies offer AAT full members (MAAT) and fellow members (FMAAT) exemptions and fast tracks to chartered status.

This fast track allows those who take out AAT Courses to achieve chartered status quicker than  university graduates.

Become self employed / start your own business

Have total flexibility, be your own boss.

For those with an entrepreneurial streak, you may choose to start a freelance career within accounting and finance. As a consultant, or even as owner of your own business, an AAT licensed member can offer accountancy, taxation or related services to clients.

AAT currently supports over 4,000 AAT Licensed Accountants and Bookkeepers in running their own successful practices. It’s a great opportunity to utilise your finance knowledge, and work with a range of clients, whilst enjoying the flexibility that comes with being your own boss.

It can be a gateway to university

You may decide to use your AAT qualification to get you onto an accountancy based  University degree. AAT courses can provide an alternative route into higher education.

The AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Level 3) can equate to UCAS points.

More information on the current tariff for applications to Higher Education can be found on the UCAS website.

An instant return on investment

Wherever AAT takes you, an immediate return on investment is practically guaranteed. With our Distance Learning study method you can learn while you earn. Taking time out from work isn’t required.

AAT courses have a track record of boosting salaries. For instance, completing the Foundation Certificate qualifies you for entry level roles such as an Accounts Assistant or Purchase/Sales Ledger Clerk, with the national average salary at £18,786.

“77% of students agree that studying for an AAT Accounting Qualification has increased their earning potential”.
