AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
The AAT level 2 certificate in accounting introduces manual and computerised bookkeeping principles up to trial balance and some basic costing principles.
The AAT level 2 certificate is the perfect place to start if:
- You have no previous accounting knowledge or experience
- You have work experience but you do not have a very thorough understanding of the double-entry bookkeeping system

AAT level 2 certificate topics:
Basic accounting I and II
This learning area introduces you to the double-entry bookkeeping system. You’ll learn to process day to day business transactions some of which are sales, purchases, expenses, banking and payroll. You’ll look in more detail at the cash book and petty cash book and reconciliation of control accounts including the bank. You’ll learn how to draft a trial balance and also make adjustments through the journal and suspense account.
Computerised accounting
You’ll transfer your knowledge from basic accounting I and II to a computerised accounting application. At eagle we choose to teach you how to use Sage Instant Accounts as it is the software that is very popular in business.
Basic costing
You’ll build a sound foundation in costing to give you the relevant knowledge and skills to take forward to the more complex costing and management accounting units at levels 3 and 4. You’ll be made aware of the importance of the costing system as a source of information for internal management decision making as contrasted with financial accounting which looks outwards.
Working effectively in accounting and finance
This unit is about gaining a range of transferable skills which will enable you to work effectively within an accounting environment. Learners will be able to work independently or as part of a team. It aims to prove a reasonable standard of literacy and numeracy skills which are essential for the workplace.
